Inspired by our recent crochet granny square class, we’ve found some other granny square projects worth mentioning. Granny squares can be as easy or complicated as you’d like it to be. And by either limiting or adding in lots of colours, you can create a veritable array of different designs. Below are a few of our recent favourites. Follow us on Pinterest for more of the same!
Granny squares come in a variety of shapes, forms and yarn weights. Most common are DK but in this case, we love this lightweight version from Alicebyday on Flickr. Alice took her inspiration from this post to create this beautiful, delicate project. Try pushing the boundaries and knit in a different weight than you are used to. We think you will be surprised by the results!
Tipsy Tessie is a master at granny squares and made these lovely pastel squares in different designs. We love the colour combinations.
Ingrid Jansen made a very hippie-esque granny square blanket complete in a Volkswagen beetle. Perfect for a picnic. This is a great idea to get rid of scrap yarn. Just mix and match to create your own unique version.
Not a fan of colours, why not try a monochrome granny square? My Way made some simple squares in 3 colours and the effect is very striking.
This square is aptly called the ‘most beautiful granny square ever’ and uses so many stitches, we lost count! Available here. If you attempt this, please share your photos as we would love to see!
What is your favourite go-to granny square pattern? Do you always use the same pattern or combine a variety? Let us know by sharing your squares on Facebook and Instagram.
Happy knitting!
